I think Allah mentioned about people of the boat/ship a few times in the Glorious Quran.
It was described as a group of people who were sailing on a boat and then they were faced with great calamities; strong winds, huge waves. There and then they prayed to Allah with their sincerest hearts so that Allah removes the adversity from them. They promised to become the grateful ones if Allah answers their prayers. HOWEVER, once they were safe, they turned their backs upon the promise made.
I still remember when I was about to know the result of my posting placement; which district in Pahang. I felt very anxious if I were to be sent far far away. The fact that I am living separately from my hubby is challenging enough. Being away from my family would add up the challenge. I was very emotionally unstable. Lebih kurang lah macam people of the boat. Very desperate. I prayed and prayed and prayed to Allah for Kuantan, since Kuantan is the nearest town to Terengganu and my sister resides in Kuantan. I WAS CLINGING TO ALLAH.
And I promised myself to be a better person, to turn over a new leaf if I were to be posted in Kuantan. And I promised Allah not to become like the people of the boat. The people of the boat, most of them only remembered Allah during difficult times and they forgotten Him, forgotten about their promises once they were free from the hardships. I don't want to be that. Ameen. I know I am far from solehah, but insyaAllah I'll keep trying.
Below is the verse regarding people of the boat...
It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from everywhere and they assume that they are surrounded, supplicating Allah , sincere to Him in religion, "If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful." But when He saves them, at once they commit injustice upon the earth without right. O mankind, your injustice is only against yourselves, [being merely] the enjoyment of worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of what you used to do.
Hidup di dunia, kita akan sentiasa diuji. I pray to Allah so that I will always cling to him, no matter what. Biiznillah.Wallahua'lam.[Surah Yunus : 22-23]
